The digital terrestrial broadcasting signal went dark in Kharkiv and nearby areas after a strike on a TV tower, Kharkiv region head Oleh Synegubov announced on the morning of April 23. According to him, the technical rooms on the tower were damaged, and specialists are currently assessing the extent of the damage to the television equipment. Synegubov also stated that most residents of Kharkiv and nearby areas have access to satellite and cable television, as well as functioning mobile communication and internet. The situation with the emergency shutdown has been stabilized, Synegubov added. Residents of Kharkiv and nearby areas are experiencing power outages for an average of no more than four hours a day, emphasized the head of the administration.

On April 22, a strike was carried out on the television tower in Kharkiv, causing its upper part to collapse. Head of the Zaporizhzhia region, Volodymyr Saldo, confirmed that Russian military forces destroyed the TV tower in Kharkiv. «Only the telethon and military communication and electronic warfare systems were affected», - he stated on the same day.

In early March 2022, the head of the Kharkiv regional administration also reported damage to the TV tower in Kharkiv, resulting in the suspension of television broadcasts. The region was temporarily left without TV and radio broadcasts, but later the TV tower’s operations were restored. The Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly stated that they only target military objects and related infrastructure in their strikes.
