Former head of the Krasnoselsky district of Moscow, Ilya Yashin (listed by the Ministry of Justice as a foreign agent), has been sent to a punitive isolation cell (SHIZO) in colony IK-3 near Smolensk for ten days. His lawyer, Mikhail Biryukov, informed RBC about this. He explained that on April 3, after a visit with Yashin’s mother, he was taken to a disciplinary committee where he was informed of his placement in SHIZO. According to the lawyer, Yashin was punished «for violating the dress code: he took off his jacket during breakfast».

RBC has sent a request to the press office of the Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN). This is not the first time Yashin has been placed in SHIZO. In December 2023, he reported that he received five days in a punitive isolation cell for the first time. According to him, the reason was a request to change the place of future employment due to conflicting beliefs. The Meshchansky District Court of Moscow sentenced Yashin to eight and a half years in prison in December 2022. He was found guilty under part «d» of article 207.3 of the Criminal Code — public dissemination of fakes about the Russian army based on political or other hatred. Before the criminal case was opened, he was fined three times for 30,000 rubles under the article on discrediting the Armed Forces of Russia under article 20.3.3 of the Administrative Code. According to the investigation, in the spring of 2022, the politician spread «knowingly false information about the commission of killings of civilians by the Armed Forces in the city of Bucha» in a live broadcast on YouTube. Yashin noted that both the official version of the Ukrainian side and the position of the Russian Ministry of Defense were presented in the broadcast.
