Russian Lawmaker Milonov Supports Idea of Testing Officials' Sexual Orientation

Vitaly Milonov, deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Family Affairs, believes that the sexual orientation of officials and deputies can be tested using psychological exams. In an interview with «Pod'em» magazine, Milonov expressed his views on non-traditional sexual orientation, considering it a sin and a spiritual illness that can be overcome. «But if we say that a person continues to advocate for perversions, then what kind of civil servant can he be? I think not a very good one», - Milonov stated. He also noted that such individuals may not be «repulsive in everything», - but could be vulnerable to blackmail.

Milonov is convinced that psychologists should be required to test the sexual orientation of all officials and deputies at every level. «Officials cannot hide from anything. With journalists and activists who know everything, we cannot hide any of our vices», - he concluded. Milonov’s stance aligns with the proposal made by State Duma deputy Alexander Khinshtein, who suggested testing the sexual orientation of officials before appointing them to high positions. «In my opinion, those institutions and structures of government directly involved in the upbringing and formation of children, teenagers, and youth should be off-limits», - Khinshtein stated.

In late November 2023, the Supreme Court of Russia deemed the international LGBT movement extremist and banned it within the country. A year earlier, a law was passed completely prohibiting LGBT propaganda, including the dissemination of information about LGBT issues and the promotion of pedophilia. The controversial stance on LGBT rights in Russia continues to spark debate and draw international attention.
