In a move to stay ahead in the rapidly evolving field of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), Russia is set to begin training specialists in Tomsk to work with drones. The Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation announced that Tomsk State University will launch a new program in the 2024/2025 academic year focused on the design and management of unmanned aviation systems.

The new program, titled «Technologies for Designing and Managing Unmanned Aviation Systems (UAS)», - will offer three professional tracks related to both the operation of UAS and the infrastructure supporting unmanned systems. Upon completion of the program, students will have the opportunity to obtain two occupational specialties: UAV operator and designer-draftsman.

This initiative comes at a time when the use of drones is becoming increasingly prevalent across various industries, from agriculture to defense. In fact, just recently, the air defense system in the Bryansk region of Russia successfully intercepted a Ukrainian drone attempting an attack. Governor Alexander Bogomaz confirmed that the UAV was of the aircraft type and was destroyed over the Starodubsky municipal district.

The training of specialists in drone technology underscores Russia’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancements in the field of unmanned aerial vehicles. With the demand for skilled professionals in this area on the rise, the program in Tomsk is poised to equip students with the knowledge and expertise needed to navigate the complex world of drone technology. As the use of drones continues to expand, the need for trained professionals in this field will only continue to grow.
