Russian tennis star Daniil Medvedev was unable to advance to the semifinals at the Madrid Masters clay court tournament. In the quarterfinals, the world number four lost the first set 4−6 to Czech player Jiri Lehecka, and then withdrew from the match due to injury. Medvedev took a medical timeout during the set. With a victory, Medvedev could have climbed to third place in the ATP rankings on Monday, surpassing Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard had previously lost in the quarterfinals to Andrey Rublev and was unable to defend his title as tournament champion.

In the semifinals, Lehecka will face Canadian player Felix Auger-Aliassime, who advanced after Jannik Sinner withdrew due to injury. The Italian missed the opportunity to surpass Novak Djokovic in the rankings and become the world number one due to a hip injury. In the other semifinal, Rublev will take on American player Taylor Fritz. The prize money for the Madrid tournament amounts to € 7.87 million.

Despite the disappointment of Medvedev’s early exit, tennis fans can look forward to an exciting semifinal lineup in Madrid. With top players like Rublev and Auger-Aliassime vying for a spot in the final, the competition promises to be fierce. As the tournament progresses, all eyes will be on the remaining players as they battle it out for the prestigious title and a share of the substantial prize money at stake. Stay tuned for more updates on the Madrid Masters as the action unfolds on the clay courts of the Spanish capital.
