Barcelona’s Xavi to Stay as Head Coach Beyond Current Season

Barcelona’s head coach Xavi has had a change of heart and will continue working with the club beyond the current season, club president Joan Laporta announced at a press conference. Xavi, who extended his contract until the summer of 2025 last September, had previously stated in late January that he would be leaving the team at the end of the season. «We are pleased to announce that Xavi will continue to work as the coach of the first team. We know that he made some statements in the middle of the season, but today we have good news that we talked about: he has transmitted to me his enthusiasm and confidence in the project», - said Laporta. According to him, the board of directors unanimously supported the proposal to continue Xavi’s work.



Xavi admitted that Barcelona is unlikely to win the title this season, but he has decided to stay for the good of the club. The coach has been in charge of Barcelona since 2021 and led them to a championship and victory in the Super Cup last season. This season, Barcelona is trailing league leaders Real Madrid by 11 points with six rounds remaining.
