The Bank of Russia has announced the release of new coins from the series «Cities of Labor Valor». While there are 63 cities with this status, the series will only expand to include 16 coins, complemented by ten-ruble coins featuring views of monuments installed in four different cities: in Perm — the monument «Heroes of the Front and Rear» in Samara — the memorial complex «Monument of Glory» in Saratov — the monument «Heroes of the Front and Rear» in Tomsk — the monument «Woman and Teenager Forging Victory in the Rear». All coins are made of steel with brass galvanic coating, with a circulation of 1 million pieces each. The coins are mandatory for acceptance at face value in all types of payments without restrictions.

Previously, coins dedicated to 12 cities — Borovichi, Yekaterinburg, Ivanovo, Izhevsk, Irkutsk, Kazan, Magnitogorsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Tagil, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk, and Omsk — were released in the «Cities of Labor Valor» series. The law on the introduction of the honorary title «City of Labor Valor» in Russia was adopted in 2020. According to the document, the title is awarded to cities whose residents «made a significant contribution to the achievement of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941−1945, ensuring uninterrupted production of military and civilian products at industrial enterprises located in the city, and showing mass labor heroism and selflessness». The decree on awarding the honorary title is signed by the President of Russia.

In 2020, the title was awarded to the first 20 cities — Borovichi, Yekaterinburg, Ivanovo, Izhevsk, Irkutsk, Kazan, Magnitogorsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Nizhny Tagil, Novokuznetsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk, Perm, Samara, Saratov, Tomsk, Ulyanovsk, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Yaroslavl. In 2021, another 24 cities were honored with the title — from Aldan and Barnaul to Cheboksary and Chita. In 2022, nine more cities, including Horlivka and Luhansk, received the title. In 2023, the number of cities with honorary status increased to 63.
